Raja's SF Project
In a little while, this will have links to (and an explanation
of) my grand Science Fiction project. For now, I just have links
to some very useful resources:
- The
Internet Speculative Fiction DataBase has an amazing
amount of information about SF books, authors, and stories. It
is a great place for locating awards and short stories. Like
the Internet Movie Database, it's
built from user submissions. (So there *are* some
inaccuracies.)
- My favorite SF index is William Contento's Index to Science Fiction
Anthologies and Collections, combined edition. It's a
definitive and darn-near exhaustive index of all SF
anthologies and collections published before 1984. There's
also a link to the joint Contento-Locus project that updates
it to 1997(!). If you want to locate a story or (after 1983) a
book, check here first!
- The Science
Fiction Resource Guide is the single best place I've found
for locating author homepages and bibliographies.
- You can no longer telnet to IUCAT. Instead, you should use
the new WWW-based interface for IUCAT. IMHO, it's even
worse than the telnet interface was, but maybe that's just me.
In any case, IUCAT is Indiana University's pretty extensive
online catalog. It isn't comprehensive -- in particular, it's
missing a lot of older books and rare books -- but it's very
helpful.
- For other IU-Library-related information (hours, locations,
renewals by e-mail), check out the IUB Libraries
Home Page.
- You can also search the Monroe County Public
Library's catalog, and find other MCPL info.
- I'm a (minor) member of the Yahoogroups
Hard SF
group, which has discussed many
books.
- The Online Books
Page is an excellent way to find zero-cost eBooks online. Among
other things, it's a superior way to search Project Gutenberg.
From here, you can also go to the Science Fiction Discussion Group site.
